For 20 consecutive years Phil Gries has been the DP on 183 different documentary projects for BBC Television, broadcast on OMNIBUS, SOUTH BANK SHOW, ARENA, PANORAMA, HORIZON, LONDON WEEKEND TELEVISION, THE LATE SHOW, BBC 2 ARTS, TOP OF THE POPS, and OPENING SHOT. In addition Gries has lensed hundreds of biography portraits, and notable documentaries including, “THE LAST DAYS OF MARILYN MONROE,” “REACHING FOR THE STARS” (series), “TALKING PICTURES” (series), “THE WORLD OF MAURICE SENDAK,” “THURSDAY’S CHILD,” “NOMAD IN NEW YORK: A DAY IN THE LIFE of WARIS DIRE,” “MAFIA WARS,” “KEITH JARRETT:THE ART OF IMPROVISATION,” “JOAN SUTHERLAND: THE RELUCTANT PRIMA DONA,” “THE OTHER GRAHAM GREENE,” and “AMERICA AT RISK.”

For ten consecutive years Phil Gries has free-lanced, as Director of Photography, for ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT. Since the 1980’s he has worked on hundreds of behind the scene shoots for UNIVERSAL, PARAMOUNT, HBO and SHOWTIME, including, “THE GODFATHER PART 3,” “HOPE & FAITH,” “THE SOPRANOS,” “OZ,” “SEX AND THE CITY,” “GOSSIP GIRLS,” “THE GOOD WIFE,” “ARMY WIVES,” “NURSE JACKIE,” LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL,” “FINAL NIGHT WITH GEORGE BUSH,” “ANGELS IN AMERICA,” “FOR LOVE OF THE GAME,” “THE CODE,” “A DOG YEAR,” “WORLD TRADE CENTER,” “WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS.” In 2001, Gries shot rare exclusive personal documentary profile footage, over a period of one week, of Michael Jackson rehearsing, alone and with family, prior to his last New York Concert at Madison Square Garden. Currently, Gries has worked on the 13 part documentary series, produced in the UK, “THE MAFIA’S GREATEST HITS” (history of organized crime in the USA), to be released world-wide in 2013.
